Shanel does not come from the traditional karting background, and first drove a road car on her eleventh birthday with a lesson from Young Driver. She was hooked from that moment and saved her pocket money to pay for a few lessons a year
But motorsport has always been her passion and she loves the smell and intoxication of a race track, and thrives on the pressure and challenge a race weekend brings.
In 2015, and at just 14 years old, Shanel volunteered her spare time to motor racing teams, and spent many long weekends working with them doing anything from washing wheels through to helping with mechanical repairs.
Following a lot of hard work, in 2016 Shanel and her father entered the Junior Saloon Car Championship as a family team, with the least experience and smallest budget on the grid. Despite this, Shanel built a reputation of fast starts, and making the most of close racing in the opening laps, with many strong performances such as Donington Park, where she went from 23rd on the grid, to 14th place in the opening two laps of the race.
Developing support has allowed Shanel to step up to the Michelin Clio Championship in 2017, but now under the guiding hand and support of multiple Michelin Clio champion squad Jade Developments. This has allowed Shanel’s talent to shine through, and despite minimal testing at the start of the season, Shanel secured 2nd place in her first ever Clio race, and has since secured several race leading performances with back-to-back podium finishes. Shanel’s long term ambition is to forge a career in motorsport in either Saloon or GT cars, and can be found on the usual Social Media site links below
